What Causes Pain?
Our musculoskeletal system is the scaffolding that holds our body upright. Our bones provide the foundation for our structure. Our bones come together at junctions known as joints. And our muscles stabilize the load of our weight across our joints and keep us upright despite gravity’s inescapable downward pull.
Unlike scaffolding joints which are fixed, our joints allow for movement. Our muscles are also responsible for powering our movement, but they must do so while simultaneously supporting our weight and stabilizing our upright position. It is no easy task, and it is best accomplished when we are balanced and aligned.
Most pain and many injuries result from muscle imbalance and skeletal misalignment’s which compromise our posture and our motion. Our back, hips, and thighs weaken from an excess of sitting versus walking. Our head moves forward of our shoulders. A slight discrepancy on our left versus right begins to twist our body.
As our muscles become imbalanced, the way our bones and joints are aligned drifts from normal. No longer upright and symmetrical, our muscles and joints struggle with stress that they were not designed or evolved to handle. Eventually, we suffer pain or even injury that would be unlikely were we to maintain upright symmetry and full muscle function.

WHY CHOOSE EGOSCUE OVER OTHER METHODS?
Exercise protocols offer a one-size-fits all solution aimed at the average sufferer of a particular condition or diagnosis. Such treatment protocols fail to optimize exercise recommendations to the needs of the individual and typically focus exclusively on the site of pain or injury. Results are inconsistent, and dependence on employer or physician-granted access increases costs and limits availability.
Exercise protocols based on a particular diagnosis focus on the site of the pain. They don’t consider why you developed pain in the first place. In fact, the assumption behind protocols is that everyone’s source of pain is the same.
Pain killers mask your pain, but they do little to address the cause of your pain. If you experience a sudden injury and just need some extra rest to heal, medication can help (albeit that help often comes with unwanted side effects). But if you are like most people suffering from musculoskeletal pain, pain killers simply provide a temporary band-aid for your problem, not a permanent fix.
Joint replacements and advances in surgical solutions are some of the most innovative developments in modern medicine but they still don’t come close to touching your body’s natural ability to dictate the process of health and healing. Surgery focuses exclusively on the site of your pain, often leaving your underlying problem unaddressed and poised to reappear down the road. It also carries risks and a hefty price tag that can often be avoided altogether by addressing the root cause of your problem.
Chiropractic treatments manipulate the position of the bones. That external force can temporarily improve the balance and alignment of the body, often providing temporary pain relief. But muscles are required to support the body’s new position and muscles with unaddressed weakness and inflexibility aren’t up to that task. Instead, the body is pulled back to is misaligned position, making repeat manipulations a necessity and long-lasting improvement elusive.
